Bengaluru: Senior Congress Leader and Former Karnataka Assembly Speaker K. R. Ramesh Kumar on Thursday December 16 made a distasteful comment on rape in the Assembly.
Speaking in the Assembly, Kumar said, “There is a saying that when rape is inevitable, enjoy it. And that the position you are exactly in.” as a comment when MLAs were demanding time to discuss farmers’ problems from Speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri, and Kageri said how could the session be conducted if everyone is given time.
“Whatever you decide I will give a nod. What my observation is that let me enjoy the situation as I can’t control the system. My sole focus is business of the house should go smooth ,” Kageri had said to which Congress MLA made the objectionable remark. However, sad turn of events was that everyone including speaker were heard laughing in return.
It is not the first that Ramesh Kumar has made such an unsavoury comment. During his tenure as Speaker, he had compared himself to a rape survivor. After protest and condemnation in the session, he had apologised.
