Bengaluru: It seems all is not well among Congress leaders over the appointment of former Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Vice-Chancellor, Maheshappa, as KPCC IT Cell general secretary. Maheshappa was removed as VTU V-C by the Governor on charges of graft last year.
While Chief Minister Siddaramaiah defended him, Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayaraddi said he would write to KPCC president G. Parameshwara objecting to the appointment.
Replying to queries on the appointment by reporters near the Vidhana Soudha on Monday, Siddaramaiah shot back saying there was nothing big about allegations levelled against Maheshappa. “Yeddyurappa, who had once been jailed, is the BJP State president now. Has the former V-C committed a bigger offence than Yeddyurappa?” he said.
Rayaraddi said he was against the appointment of Maheshappa. “He has been indicted in the investigation and he cannot be appointed as office-bearer of the party. I will write a letter to the KPCC chief explaining the charges against Maheshappa. I will also mark a copy of the letter to the Chief Minister,” he said.
