Bengaluru faced significant disruption on Tuesday as continuous rain led to widespread water-logging and traffic congestion. In response, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert, prompting the closure of schools for tomorrow. Companies were also advised to allow employees to work from home.
Heavy rainfall since early morning has caused major traffic issues in areas such as Varthur, Hebbal, and Kadubeesanahalli. Key tech hubs, including Manyata Tech Park and Sarjapur, were also impacted. The Hebbal flyover toward KR Puram was temporarily closed due to water-logging, although the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) cleared the blockage later.
Despite school closures, colleges will remain open with safety guidelines in place. Many schools are conducting online classes for higher grades, while lower-grade students have been assigned home-based tasks.
BBMP has set up 24/7 control rooms across eight zones to assist residents, along with a helpline number (1533) for reporting rain-related issues. Fallen trees, such as one on Ashoka Pillar road, have also added to the chaos.
The IMD attributes the rain to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal and has issued yellow alerts for surrounding districts, including Tumakuru, Mysuru, and coastal Karnataka.
