Bengaluru: Social Welfare Minister Kota Srinivas Poojari informed that the conviction rate in atrocity cases was 7 per cent in 2021. He was replying to a question from MLC U. B. Venkatesh. “In 2019 and 2020, the conviction rate in Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act cases was 10 per cent and 7 per cent, respectively,” the Minister said.
He said that the department has issued a circular instructing public prosecutors to take pending cases seriously and present arguments effectively to convict the offenders.
In 2019, 2020, and 2021, respectively, 5,434, 5,667, and 6,556 cases were reported under the Act, he added.
