Bengaluru: Bengaluru Customs officials have seized two luxury watches valued at ₹85.81 lakh from a passenger who allegedly attempted to smuggle them into India by concealing them after arriving from Hong Kong.
The seizure was made at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) during a customs inspection on July 20.
Watches concealed to evade detection
According to Customs officials, the passenger had allegedly concealed the high-value luxury watches in an attempt to evade customs checks upon arrival from Hong Kong.
During inspection, officials recovered the concealed watches, preventing the alleged smuggling attempt.
Passenger arrested
Following the seizure, the passenger was arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
Customs authorities have launched further investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the smuggling attempt and whether the accused was acting alone or as part of a larger network.
Customs continue crackdown
The latest seizure is part of the ongoing efforts by Bengaluru Customs to curb the illegal import of high-value goods through airports. Officials have intensified surveillance and inspections to detect attempts to smuggle gold, luxury items, electronic gadgets and other undeclared valuables into the country.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
