A 27-year-old man, Arnab Mandal, who ran a cyber centre at Heelalige on the outskirts of Bengaluru, has been arrested for allegedly assisting illegal

migrants in obtaining fake identification documents, including Aadhaar cards and PAN cards. Mandal was reportedly charging between ₹6,000 to ₹8,000 per Aadhaar card.

The arrest followed a raid on Mandal’s shop, Wow Technology UK, on November 22. Acting on a tip-off, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Anekal sub-division), BK Mohan Kumar, uncovered 18 rental agreements, several Aadhaar and PAN cards, and ration cards at the location. Authorities found that the landowners listed in the rental agreements denied having entered into contracts with the supposed tenants, and Mandal was believed to have forged the signatures of landowners.

Police seized a range of items, including computers, a laptop, a printer, 55 Aadhaar cards, 40 bank passbooks, and mobile phones. Mandal, originally from South 24 Parganas in West Bengal, had been residing in Heelalige for over three years. Authorities are now investigating to trace the illegal migrants who benefited from his services, and there are also concerns that some Pakistani nationals may have falsely claimed to be Bangladeshi to obtain Aadhaar cards through his assistance.
