Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader D K Shivakumar is set to be sworn in as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka on June 3, with the ceremony scheduled to take place at the Glass House of Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru. The announcement was made by Congress state working president G C Chandrashekhar, who said preparations are underway for the leadership transition following the resignation of Siddaramaiah.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Chandrashekhar confirmed that the date for the swearing-in ceremony has been finalised, while the exact timing will be announced later after consultations with relevant authorities.

Glass House selected as venue

According to Chandrashekhar, there was initially some uncertainty regarding the venue for the oath-taking ceremony. However, after discussions, it was decided that the event would be held at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan.

“The swearing-in ceremony on June 3 will take place at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan,” he said.

The venue is expected to host senior Congress leaders, government officials, party representatives and invited dignitaries during the ceremony.

Party opts for a simple ceremony

The Congress leadership has decided that the event should be conducted in a simple and dignified manner rather than as a large-scale celebration.

Chandrashekhar said there were discussions about arranging 10,000 to 15,000 buses from different parts of Karnataka to transport party workers and supporters to Bengaluru. However, the proposal was dropped due to concerns related to traffic congestion and the prevailing fuel situation.

He emphasised that the swearing-in ceremony should reflect a spirit of service and responsibility rather than extravagance.

“The ceremony should not be extravagant. It should be conducted as simply as possible and should reflect a spirit of work and service rather than display or pomp,” he said.

Appeal to party workers

The Congress leader appealed to party workers and supporters across the state not to rush to Bengaluru for the event.

Instead, he urged them to cooperate with the party’s decision and help avoid traffic disruptions and inconvenience to the public.

The move is aimed at ensuring that normal life in the city is not affected by large crowds during the swearing-in ceremony.

Shivakumar to visit districts after taking office

Chandrashekhar said that after assuming office, D K Shivakumar plans to personally visit districts across Karnataka to meet party workers, supporters and local leaders.

Rather than asking supporters to travel to Bengaluru, the incoming Chief Minister is expected to reach out directly to people in various regions of the state.

Party leaders believe this approach will help strengthen grassroots engagement while reducing logistical challenges associated with large public gatherings in the capital.

Leadership transition in Karnataka

The swearing-in ceremony follows the resignation of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who stepped down after discussions with the Congress high command. The Congress Legislature Party is in the process of formally electing its new leader, paving the way for the formation of a new government under Shivakumar’s leadership.

Shivakumar’s elevation to the top post marks a significant political milestone in Karnataka and is expected to usher in a new phase for the Congress government in the state.

With the date and venue now confirmed, attention has shifted to the composition of the new cabinet and the policy priorities that the incoming Chief Minister will pursue after taking office.
