Davanagere: After the huge turnout at the 75th birthday celebration of Congress leader Siddaramaiah in the district of Davanagere, a group of BJP leaders have urged the party leadership to host a major event there to highlight the achievements and initiatives of the State Government.
M. P. Renukacharya, Political Secretary to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and MLA for Honnali in the Davanagere District, said that the district’s party leaders and local workers have urged the organisation of such an event ahead of the 2023 State Assembly elections.
Speaking to mediapersons Renukacharya said, “Division-wise discussions will be held, and I’ll meet with the Chief Minister and the BJP State President Nalin Kumar Kateel, to provide the opportunity to hold the party’s valedictory event in Davangere. Since our leaders and employees have requested it, we will organise a huge event.”
He pointed out that the event shouldn’t be interpreted as a response to Siddaramaiah’s 75th birthday celebration, which was held on August 3 in Davanagere and attracted a big gathering.
The purpose of the event is to highlight public-friendly programmes and the achievements of the BJP government. The Chief Minister and party leader will decide and make an announcement in response to our request, he added.
In response to a question, Renukacharya said that despite the success of Siddaramaiah’s grand birthday celebrations, the BJP is not worried, pointing out that the events were really opposed by state Congress President D. K. Shivakumar and other members of the opposition party.
While the BJP has no factions, the Congress has a number of them, including the Siddaramaiah faction, the D. K. Shivakumar faction, and the Mallikarjun Kharge faction, and the neutral faction, he said. “Siddaramaiah is respected since he is a leader of backward classes, but there is little concern that his birthday celebration will harm the BJP’s prospects in the region,” he added.
