Death toll increases to three in Bellandur building collapse

Bengaluru: Three people lost their lives when an under-construction building collapsed near Ecospace on Bellandur main road on Wednesday afternoon, October 5. While seven persons were rescued, one is critically injured.

Two dead, four trapped in Bengaluru building collapse-1Ashok Mahanta (27), working as a security guard in the adjacent building, Sameer, a worker and an unidentified person died in the incident. At Sakra World Hospital, where most victims were taken, one person is being treated in the ICU while four others are safe.

As many as 150 rescue personnel got into action including police department, fire services and NDRF. Rescue operations went on till late Wednesday night.

According to BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad, the builders had taken permission for ground plus two floors but had built an unauthorised additional floor. Also, it was jutting into the adjacent building, with its pillars almost touching the compound wall.

The commissioner said they were trying to trace the builders— Vijay Kumar and Srinivas Reddy, who are absconding. Two BBMP engineers were suspended for approving a plan full of violations. A probe has been ordered.
