Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar was forced to cut short his speech during a religious event in Ramanagara after supporters of jailed Kannada actor Darshan repeatedly raised “D-Boss” slogans, urging him to intervene in the actor’s legal case.
CM appeals for patience
As the chants began, Shivakumar acknowledged the emotions of Darshan’s supporters but urged them to remain patient and allow the legal process to take its course.
“I understand your feelings. I understand your love for D-Boss. You need to be patient,” he told the gathering.
Despite repeated appeals, the slogans continued, interrupting the Chief Minister’s speech several times.
‘This is a religious programme’
With the disruptions intensifying, Shivakumar reminded the crowd that the occasion was a religious event and should be conducted with dignity.
He appealed to the fans to pray instead of seeking political intervention, stating that the government could not interfere in a matter that is currently before the courts.
Expressing his disappointment, he said, “Once you have told me, I have understood. You are spoiling everything by doing this. Be quiet,” before stopping his speech midway and taking his seat.
Leaders urge crowd to maintain decorum
Ramanagara MLA Iqbal Hussain later took the microphone and appealed to the gathering to maintain peace and decorum.
The Chief Minister reiterated that Darshan’s case is sub judice and that the government cannot intervene in judicial proceedings.
Videos of the incident were widely shared on social media, drawing mixed reactions from the public. While some supported the fans’ emotional appeal, others criticised the disruption of a religious programme and backed the Chief Minister’s call for respecting legal and judicial processes.
