DK Shivakumar has underlined Bengaluru’s growing importance in shaping India’s technology future, saying many global leaders choose to visit the city before travelling to New Delhi.

Speaking at the Network18 Future of Work Summit, he said Bengaluru remains the key lens through which the world views India’s innovation economy.

‘City of the future’

Shivakumar described Bengaluru as a forward-looking global city with unmatched influence in technology, startups and digital transformation.

He said the city continues to attract investors, multinational firms and entrepreneurs from across the world.

According to him, Bengaluru’s role goes beyond Karnataka and has become central to India’s economic identity.

Strong talent ecosystem

The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted the city’s large talent base in the IT and technology sectors.

Bengaluru remains home to lakhs of engineers, developers, founders and knowledge workers, making it one of the world’s most important technology talent clusters.

Its universities, startups and research centres continue to feed the ecosystem.

AI warning and opportunity

Shivakumar also reportedly cautioned that artificial intelligence could affect many traditional jobs in the future.

At the same time, he indicated that AI also creates new opportunities in innovation, skilling and productivity if managed well.

Bengaluru’s next challenge

While the city leads in technology, experts say sustaining growth will require better infrastructure, mobility, housing and environmental planning.

Even so, Bengaluru’s status as India’s innovation capital remains strong.
