Bengaluru: A late-night scare gripped residents of an apartment complex in Bengaluru after a software professional allegedly fired an air gun from his balcony for nearly 45 minutes while under the influence of alcohol, damaging property and causing panic.
The incident took place at Sipani Bliss Apartments in the Anekal area. According to police, the accused, employed at a private IT company in Whitefield, allegedly fired multiple rounds from his balcony, targeting parked vehicles, rooftops and security guards. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Residents panic as shots ring out
Residents said the gunfire created panic across the apartment complex, with many rushing indoors for safety. Security guards and other residents who attempted to intervene were reportedly threatened after the accused pointed the air gun in their direction. A parked SUV was also damaged during the incident.
Police were alerted and reached the apartment complex, where they took the accused into custody.
Techie arrested, investigation underway
The software professional was arrested, and the air gun was seized as part of the investigation. Police are probing the circumstances that led to the incident and are examining whether additional offences apply based on the damage caused and the threat posed to residents.
Authorities said that although the weapon was an air gun and no one sustained injuries, the reckless act caused widespread fear and could have resulted in serious consequences.
The incident has reignited concerns over irresponsible handling of weapons and public safety within residential communities. Police have urged citizens to act responsibly and warned that any behaviour endangering public safety will be dealt with strictly under the law.
