Bengaluru: Leader of Opposition in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Council Padmanabha Reddy on Wednesday alleged that state government was infringing upon the rights of the BBMP corporators by making empowered committee’s approval mandatory for works taken up under state government grants and for projects worth above Rs 10 crore.
Coming down heavily on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for constituting the empowered committee, Padmanabha Reddy has said the constitution of the empowered committee as against the 74th amendment of the Constitution and KMC Act. “The chief minister is acting like Hitler by infringing the rights of the BBMP corporators,” Reddy said.
The BJP leader challenged the chief minister and the minister for Bengaluru development and town planning to defend the decision of constituting the empowered committee in a special meeting of the BBMP Council. “The state government has issued an order for constituting the empowered committee on November 3. It is illegal. It is like fence eating the crop,’’ he said.
He said that he wanted to move an adjournment motion during the BBMP Council meeting but the Mayor did not allow it expecting defeat for the ruling party in the BBMP Council. “I am challenging Congress to move an adjournment motion in the BBMP Council on this issue,’’ he said.
He said the purpose of constituting the empowered committee was to garner funds for Congress for the next Assembly elections.
