Bengaluru: Former DGP of Prisons H Satyanarayana Rao has filed a defamation case against former DIG of Prisons, Roopa Moudgil in a case related to providing special facilities to Sasikala in Parappana Agrahara prison.
Satyanarayana Rao, in his defamation case said that the allegations by former DIG Prisons had caused severe damage to his name, fame and integrity, and also led to “mental agony”, reported a news daily.
The decision to file a defamation case is in response to allegations made by Roopa.
DIG Roopa had earlier alleged that Rs 2 Crore was being given to Satyanarayana Rao, for providing VIP facilities to Sasikala inside Parappana Agrahara prison. After this, DIG Roopa was transferred and Satyanarayana Rao was sent on leave.
Rao has questioned the veracity of the allegations made and asked for pictures of the said VIP treatment in the jail. Rao said he would approach the Income Tax Department and seek its assistance in unearthing more facts related to the Rs 2 Crore cash so that those guilty of violating tax laws can be brought to book.
Rao, however denied all allegations made against him by Roopa, and asked her to tender an unconditional apology within three days of receiving the notice.
Criminal and civil suits for defamation for Rs 50 Crore will be filed in case Roopa fails to comply, Rao said.
