Bengaluru: A 60-year-old retired army man was caught by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the Kempegowda International Airport carrying four .22 live cartridges in his handbag.
The security personnel identified the arrested person as Bade Babanarao, a native of Pune. He had come to visit his daughter in Bengaluru by train and was taking a flight back to Pune.
The CISF personnel at the airport caught Babanarao trying to pass through security check with the live cartridges in his bag. He was taken into custody. He told security personnel that the cartridges were given to him 10 years ago by a friend, also a retired army man. He claimed to have forgotten all about the ammunition in the bag.
The officials recorded his statement and booked him under the Arms Act for carrying ammunition without licence. They have sent the cartridges for forensic analysis even as the KIA police are investigating the matter.
