Bengaluru: State farmers’ associations are set to submit a counter petition to the Supreme Court on Tuesday opposing the Cauvery Water Management Tribunal’s (CWMA) directive to release water to Tamil Nadu.
Sarvodaya Karnataka Party MLA Darshan Puttannaiah has arrived in New Delhi for this purpose. The petition will be submitted with the assistance of senior advocate Ravi Varma Kumar. Party has indicated that they will present the Cauvery valley water crisis situation to the court.
Farmers will highlight the existing water reservoir levels, the lack of water for agricultural purposes, and the difficulty in supplying drinking water to residents in their communication to the Supreme Court.
Mandya MLA Darshan Puttannaiah has initiated an indefinite protest against the water release to Tamil Nadu. The Supreme Court is expected to consider the petition on Wednesday. Simultaneously, demonstrations persist in Mandya and Mysuru districts, opposing the state government’s decision to release water to Tamil Nadu.
