The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested a father and daughter for allegedly cheating unemployed youth of more than ₹5.3 crore by falsely promising jobs in various central and state government departments.
The accused have been identified as MA Mansoor Ahmed and his daughter Shamshad Begum MM, an MBA graduate. According to police, the duo targeted job seekers by claiming they could secure appointments in departments such as Railways, Income Tax, Health and Social Welfare.
Fake appointment letters used to gain trust
Investigators said the accused operated fake training centres in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata to attract unemployed youth. Victims were allegedly convinced through forged appointment letters and promises of secure government employment.
To make the scheme appear genuine, some recruits were reportedly paid salaries for three to four months. Police believe this tactic helped the accused gain the confidence of more victims and expand the fraud network.
More than 40 job seekers, mostly from North Karnataka, are believed to have fallen prey to the scam.
Complaint led to investigation
The fraud came to light after victim Sangamesh Rachaiah Vastrad filed a complaint with the CCB in November last year. Following the complaint, the Organised Crime Wing (East) launched a detailed investigation.
Officials examined financial records, verified documents and tracked online transactions allegedly carried out between 2023 and 2025.
Probe into wider network continues
Police arrested the duo on June 4 and have taken them into custody for further questioning. Investigators are now examining the possible involvement of other family members and associates linked to the operation.
Efforts are also underway to trace and recover the money allegedly collected from victims. The investigation remains ongoing.
