Father hangs seven-year-old son and ends life

Bengaluru: In a ghastly incident, a man hanged his seven-year-old son before ending his life at Thoobarahallipalya in Whitefield police station limits.

Bank employee jumps to death from 5th floor-1The police have identified the person as Maatharaju (28) and his son as Leela Manohar. According to the police, the deceased Maatharaju, hailing from Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, was allegedly upset over his second wife deserting him.

The police said that Maatharaju, a carpenter by profession, got married to one, Lava, about 10 years ago and had two children from her, Nandini and Leela Manohar. As there were differences between them, they had approached family court for divorce and legally separated two years ago. As per the court order, the elder daughter was living with Lava, while Maatharaju had got the custody of his son.

It was said that Maatharaju got married to Devi four months ago. Devi also deserted him after a few days and went to her maternal home. It made him depressed and moved to his sister’s house in Thoobarahallipalya two months ago. It was said that he was not going to work and reportedly under depression.

The police said that when his sister and brother-in-law went for work on Friday, Maatharaju hanged his son to the fan using a saree. Later, he also hanged himself. The incident came to light when the sister returned home in the evening.

Whitefield police have registered a case in this connection.
