A foreign traveller has sparked conversation online after defending Bengaluru against claims that the city is constantly chaotic and overcrowded.

In a viral social media video, the visitor argued that Bengaluru is often unfairly portrayed online and that many parts of the city remain calm, organised and liveable despite its rapid growth challenges.

Video challenges common stereotype

The traveller, identified online as Len Cook, shared a clip from a busy Bengaluru street and questioned the perception that the city is always disorderly.

He pointed out that while traffic and crowds exist in some pockets, the city cannot be judged solely through viral clips showing congestion or peak-hour stress.

According to him, even active commercial streets can feel surprisingly normal and manageable.

City’s image often debated

Bengaluru, known as India’s technology capital, regularly faces criticism over traffic congestion, road works, public transport pressure and rapid urban expansion.

At the same time, many residents praise the city for its climate, work opportunities, cosmopolitan culture and quality of life.

The latest video has reopened debate on whether social media often exaggerates negatives while ignoring everyday normalcy.

Residents welcome positive view

Several users reportedly thanked the visitor for presenting a balanced image of their hometown.

Others noted that no fast-growing global city is free from growing pains, especially one that has expanded rapidly over the past two decades.

A city of contrasts

Urban experts often describe Bengaluru as a city of contrasts — innovation hub and infrastructure challenge, stressful commute and peaceful neighbourhoods, global ambition and local warmth.

The visitor’s remarks have resonated with many who believe Bengaluru deserves criticism where needed, but also fair recognition.

More than one narrative

The discussion highlights how large cities cannot be defined by a single narrative. For many, Bengaluru remains both imperfect and deeply loved.
