Electronics City Police have registered a case after four migrant workers from West Bengal were allegedly robbed at knifepoint near Bettadasanapura in Bengaluru on June 28.

According to police, the incident occurred between 6.30 pm and 9.15 pm after the victims had returned from work and were chatting near Bettadasanapura.

The victims have been identified as 25-year-old Yunus, 19-year-old Irfan Shaik, 20-year-old Sabir Shaik and 18-year-old Owaidur Islam Laskar. The four have been living and working in Bengaluru for the past eight months.

Robbery followed phone confrontation

Police said the incident began when Sabir Shaik was speaking on his mobile phone. Three unidentified men allegedly approached him and claimed that his friends had scolded them. They demanded to see photographs of his friends stored on his phone.

When Sabir said he did not know them, the suspects allegedly snatched his mobile phone and walked away. As Sabir and his three friends followed them to recover the device, the accused reportedly turned violent.

Victims threatened with knife

The suspects allegedly threatened the four men with a knife and a wooden club before assaulting them. They fled with four mobile phones and ₹10,000 in cash.

Before escaping, the accused also allegedly forced one of the victims to transfer ₹488 through UPI and warned the group against reporting the incident to anyone.

Police launch investigation

Electronics City Police have registered a case under Sections 309(6) (robbery) and 311 (robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

Police are analysing available evidence and working to identify and trace the three suspects. The investigation is underway.
