Garbage Collection Disrupted in Bengaluru Amid Workers’ Protest

Door-to-door garbage collection faced interruptions in Bengaluru’s East and West zones on Monday as auto tipper loaders staged a protest. The workers demanded permanent employment with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), similar to pourakarmikas tasked with maintaining public cleanliness.

BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath assured protestors that their memorandum would be submitted to the government. He also revealed plans for a significant overhaul of the civic body’s solid waste management department to address operational inefficiencies.

The disruption highlights ongoing challenges in Bengaluru’s waste management system, emphasizing the need for long-term solutions to workforce demands and system revamps.
