Bengaluru: Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed officials to expedite ongoing infrastructure works in Bengaluru East and ensure that projects are completed within the stipulated time.
Rao issued the directions during an inspection of key locations in the eastern part of the city on Saturday, where he reviewed the progress of road, underpass, flyover, footpath, pipeline and stormwater drainage works.
Road works reviewed at Gunjur
During his inspection of Gunjur Junction, Rao directed officials to speed up road construction and address potholes in the area.
He also instructed officials to develop footpaths and remove construction debris from roads and public spaces to improve pedestrian movement and road safety.
Rao directed officials to install appropriate traffic and road safety signage at the junction to improve traffic management and ensure safer movement for motorists and pedestrians.
The directions come amid continuing infrastructure works in Bengaluru’s eastern areas, where expanding residential and commercial development has increased pressure on existing road networks.
Hope Farm underpass work inspected
At Hope Farm Junction, Rao inspected the ongoing underpass works and directed officials to accelerate the project.
He instructed the officials concerned to take necessary safety measures at the work site and ensure that construction activities do not cause unnecessary inconvenience to commuters.
Rao also directed officials to examine the possibility of relocating the temple located at the junction.
The proposed relocation is intended to ensure that the structure does not obstruct public movement or interfere with the ongoing underpass works.
Waterlogging issues reviewed
Rao also reviewed waterlogging-related issues along Varthur Main Road, particularly near Manipal Hospital and Jamia Masjid.
Officials were instructed to examine the drainage-related issues and take appropriate measures to address water accumulation in the affected areas.
Stormwater drainage remains an important component of infrastructure works in Bengaluru’s eastern corridor, particularly in areas that experience congestion and waterlogging during periods of heavy rainfall.
Pending works at Varthur
During the inspection at Varthur, Rao directed officials to clear construction debris and complete pending pipeline works.
He also instructed officials to take action at locations where demolition works remain pending, so that related infrastructure projects can progress without further delay.
The Chief Commissioner stressed the need for coordination among the departments involved and directed officials to complete the ongoing works within the stipulated timelines.
The inspection covered several infrastructure projects and problem spots along important stretches of Bengaluru East, with emphasis on road connectivity, pedestrian facilities, drainage and traffic safety.
