Two engineers attached to the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) were caught red-handed by Karnataka Lokayukta officials while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹2 lakh from a contractor in Bengaluru.

The action followed a complaint filed by the contractor, who alleged that the officials had demanded money to process pending bills and facilitate approvals related to contract work.

Lokayukta lays trap

According to Lokayukta sources, officials verified the complaint and gathered preliminary evidence before launching a trap operation. During the operation, the two engineers were allegedly caught while accepting the bribe amount.

The tainted cash was reportedly recovered from the accused, and officials subsequently carried out searches as part of the investigation. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Lokayukta authorities following established procedures.

Probe into wider involvement

The incident has once again brought attention to allegations of corruption within civic and infrastructure-related departments. Bengaluru is currently witnessing several major urban development and infrastructure projects, making transparency and accountability critical to public confidence.

Investigators are now examining whether the alleged bribery was an isolated incident or part of a larger network involving other officials. Authorities are also reviewing documents and records connected to the contractor’s work and pending approvals.

A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Lokayukta officials have stated that further investigations are underway and that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.
