A Bengaluru-based employee working at Google has sparked fresh debate over the city’s worsening traffic congestion after revealing that a 4-kilometre journey to his office took him around 45 minutes.

The techie, identified as Venkatesh D, shared a video on Instagram documenting his frustrating commute experience in Bengaluru.

“What normally takes 10 minutes took 45”

In the viral clip, Venkatesh explained that the route from his home to office usually takes only around 9 to 10 minutes. However, due to severe traffic congestion, the same journey stretched to nearly 45 minutes.

“So, I live almost 4 kilometres from my office and it took me 45 minutes to reach office today,” he said in the video.

Expressing frustration over Bengaluru’s infrastructure challenges, he questioned where taxpayers’ money was being spent while commuters continued facing long travel delays daily.

The video was posted with the caption: “Paying premium taxes just to experience a premium crawling speed.”

Viral video triggers strong reactions

The clip quickly gained attention online, with many social media users agreeing with the techie’s frustration and sharing similar commuting experiences from different parts of Bengaluru.

One user wrote, “Four kilometres in 45 minutes is not commuting, it is punishment,” while another commented, “This is the everyday reality of Bengaluru traffic.”

Several users also criticised the city’s infrastructure planning and increasing vehicle congestion, especially in major technology corridors.

Bengaluru traffic remains major concern

Areas such as Bellandur, Outer Ring Road, Whitefield, and Electronic City continue to witness heavy congestion due to rapid urban growth and expanding office hubs.

Urban planners and residents have repeatedly called for improved public transportation, faster metro expansion, better road infrastructure, and decentralised commercial development to reduce traffic pressure.

Many professionals have also renewed demands for hybrid work models and work-from-home flexibility to ease the burden on daily commuters.

Despite ongoing infrastructure projects, Bengaluru continues to remain one of India’s most traffic-congested cities
