Bengaluru: The Department of Collegiate Education has decided to introduce the concept of visiting faculties to deliver lectures for students pursuing undergraduate courses in state government degree colleges.
According to officials in the department, it is mandatory for government degree colleges to invite experts from various fields/professions as visiting faculties. This is also an effort from the education department to help students get an idea of career opportunities ahead of them and help them choose the right careers.
Dr Ajay Nagabhushan, Commissioner, Department of Collegiate Education said that the idea behind the guest talks is to give exposure to final-year students before they get their degree certificates. “There are thousands of students who are confused about career choices. Such lectures will give them an idea of what career path to follow. The experts should be from different professions. They can invite advocates, police officers, bureaucrats, charted accountants, journalists, teachers, software engineers, industrialists, entrepreneur, etc. Knowing about a profession from a person who is involved in that profession will provide a clear picture for students,” he said.
The Department of Collegiate Education has instructed the principals of all the 421 government first grade/degree colleges in the state to organise a special lecture by experts every month.
The lecture series will be for final-year students and can be organised using the funds available with colleges. Such a practice of lectures by experts in the field is already in place in several private colleges in Bengaluru, Mysuru and Mangaluru.
