Ground water in 30 taluks ‘over exploited’

Bengaluru: With 30-taluks being identified as places where ground water has been ‘over exploited’, the State government has made it mandatory to obtain permission from competent authority for sinking borewells in these taluks.

The taluks are:?Badami, Bagalkot, Devanahalli, Doddaballapur, Hosakote, Nelamangala, Anekal, Bengaluru East, Bengaluru North, Bengaluru South, Belagavi, Ramadurga, Hagaribommanahalli, Kadur, Chitradurga, Holalkere, Jagalur, Bangarpet, Kolar, Malur, Mulbagal, Chikkaballapur, Chintamani, Gauribidanur, Gudibande, Shidlaghatta, Srinivaspur, Ramanagar, Chikkanayakanahalli, Koratagere and Madhugiri taluks.

Citizens should obtain permission from a committee headed by the deputy commissioner, for sinking borwells in these taluks.
