Bengaluru: Reports of swine flu (H1N1) fever continue to come in from across the state. According to the latest data, a total of 17 people across the state, have died due to the disease since September 1.

According to sources in the state health department, in the last five days, five H1N1 deaths were reported from the state. Meanwhile, the total number of H1N1 positive cases has reached 990.

“These five deaths have been reported from the Bengaluru (urban), Chithradurga, and Haveri districts. BBMP, Bengaluru urban and rural districts, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Dakshina Kannada are the worst affected areas. The fever is reported from all the districts of the state,” informed an officer.

“Awareness drives have been taken up to control the spread of the fever. As personal hygiene is key in controlling the disease, the department is struggling. The awareness level is very low among the general public,” he stated.
