Bengaluru: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court on Wednesday May 11 extended the judicial custody of ten people accused of murdering Bajrang Dal activist Harsha to 180 days following the request from the prosecution.

The NIA has arrested ten people in connection with Harsha’s murder in Shivamogga since February 21. Their 90-day custody period was supposed to end on May 21. As the NIA’s investigation is still ongoing, the prosecution moved a petition to extend the custody for another 90 days under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

The prosecution claimed that the witnesses have still to complete the test identification parades for the accused and that a forensic examination report of the electronic gadgets seized from the accused must be obtained from the Regional FSL in Hubballi and analysed.

The prosecution also said that the people whom the accused met and the people who were in contact with them before and after the crime should be investigated based on the call details report.

The court granted the petition, ruling that there are sufficient grounds to extend the accused persons’ judicial custody from 90 days to 180 days.
