Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has ordered the Karnataka State Law University to complete the examination/evaluation procedure for students in the second and fourth semesters of the three-year LL.B course as soon as possible.
While setting aside the order passed by a single bench on December 14, 2021, a division bench of Justices Justice S. G. Pandit and Justice Anant Ramanath Hegde of the Karnataka High Court directed the university to determine the mode of examination – online/offline/blended/online open-book exam (OBE)/assignment-based evaluation (ABE)/research papers as suggested by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and other relevant documents within ten days.
The Supreme Court has made it clear that policy decisions concerning educational institutions should be left to academicians and experts in the field. “We are of the opinion that the Single Judge’s order directing the university to promote the students of the second and fourth semesters is not reasonable, especially in a scenario where the petitioners have not made such a prayer,” the bench said.
