Bengaluru: Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (S) Supremo H D Deve Gowda will be inaugurating the Bangalore Book Festival on Monday, October 15. This festival will be held between October 15 and 21 in Tripura Vasini at the Palace Grounds. The event is jointly organised by the Bengaluru Book Sellers and Publishers Association and India Comics. Besides the book exhibition and sale, this event will also feature a literary festival, various cultural events and a food festival.

Speaking to reporters, the Bengaluru Books Sellers and Publishers Association President A N Ramachandra informed that the Kannada Sahithya Parishat President Manu Baligar, writer-poet Chandrasekar Kambar and Chairperson of the Kannada Book Authority, Vasundhara Bhupati, will be participating in the inaugural event.

“More than 270 stalls will be opened during this festival and over 10 lakh books will be displayed. This festival has been organised with an aim to encourage the habit of reading among the youngsters,” he said.

“Book titles in Kannada, English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Sanskrit and Malayalam will be displayed and sold during this festival. Besides the book exhibition, we are also holding events like cultural programmes, keeping in mind the interest of the visitors. This festival is a Dasara gift,” he added.

The Kannada Development Authority, Kannada Book Authority, Department of Kannada and Culture, Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Kendra Sahithya Academy, Karnataka Sahithya Academy, Kuvempu Bhasha Pradhikara and National Book Trust have also joined hands with the organisers of this event.

“In the past 12 years, we have gained a lot of experience by organising this festival. Readers still search for a few old books and when they get what they are looking for, their happiness cannot be expressed in words. During one book festival, a reader found Karnataka Parikshaka, a book published in the year 1860. This is one of the many memorable experiences we have had,“ explains the director of the festival, B S Raghuram.

One of the other attractions of this festival is that ISKCON Bengaluru will be holding a food festival here.
