BENGALURU:A newborn boy was found abandoned on the steps of a closed shop in Tirumagondanahalli village, near Doddaballapur, on Sunday. Locals who noticed the infant at the desolate spot immediately alerted the police.
According to officials, the Doddaballapur Rural Police, along with members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), rushed to the scene and rescued the baby. He was later shifted to the Doddaballapur Government Hospital for medical care.
Infant recovering under medical supervision
“According to doctors, the baby is recovering and is in stable condition,” an investigating officer told The Times of India. Hospital authorities confirmed that the infant was receiving proper medical attention and care from the paediatric unit.
Probe underway to trace those responsible
Police have begun an investigation to identify the person or people responsible for abandoning the child. Officers are verifying CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning locals to gather more information.
“We are working on finding those who left the newborn behind. Abandoning a child is a serious offence,” the officer said.
Child Welfare Committee to take custody
Once the infant is declared fit for discharge, the Child Welfare Committee is expected to take formal custody of the baby. Officials said the committee would ensure that the child is placed under proper care, either in a state-run home or through an adoption process, as per the law.
Authorities have urged residents to inform police or child helplines in such situations rather than taking extreme steps. “There are safe and legal alternatives available for parents in distress,” a CWC official said.
The incident has drawn concern among residents, with several expressing shock and sadness over the abandonment. Police said further details would be shared once the investigation progresses.
