Heavy Rainfall Causes Major Disruptions in Bengaluru, Traffic Chaos and Flooded Roads
Bengaluru has been grappling with continuous heavy rainfall since early this morning, throwing the city into disarray. The rains, linked to an atmospheric disturbance in the southeastern Bay of Bengal, have caused significant disruptions for residents, particularly commuters trying to get to work and college. Waterlogged roads and slow-moving traffic became the norm in several parts of the city, leaving motorists and pedestrians stranded.
Key areas like Dasarahalli, 8th Mile, Hesaraghatta Main Road, Goraguntepalya, Rajajinagar, Mahalakshmi Layout, Milk Colony, and Malleswaram have been among the worst hit by the heavy rains. JC Road, in particular, saw extensive flooding, with vehicles moving at a snail’s pace or getting stuck in the water. Commuters were stuck in long traffic jams, and videos showing cars navigating through deep puddles quickly spread on social media.
The heavy downpour has exacerbated the poor road conditions Bengaluru is known for. Potholes, now filled with water, created even more hazardous driving conditions, leading to further delays. Commuters expressed their frustration on social media, highlighting the lack of preparedness and inadequate infrastructure.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that Bengaluru, along with several other districts in Karnataka, will continue to experience heavy rainfall for the next few days. Yellow alerts have been issued for Bengaluru City, Bengaluru Rural, Mandya, Mysuru, Kolar, and several other districts on October 15 and 16. Additionally, an orange alert has been declared for Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, and Mysuru districts on October 16, with more intense rainfall expected.
As residents brace for more rain, the city’s already struggling infrastructure is likely to face further challenges unless swift action is taken by authorities.
