Police have arrested a hospital employee in connection with the alleged theft of gold and silver jewellery worth around ₹9.7 lakh from a hospital ward in Bengaluru.
The incident reportedly took place last week and has raised concerns regarding security measures inside healthcare facilities.
Jewellery reportedly stolen from ward
According to police, the valuables belonged to a patient or attendants staying in the hospital ward. The theft came to light after the jewellery was found missing, following which a complaint was lodged with authorities.
Investigators reportedly reviewed CCTV footage and questioned hospital staff before identifying the suspect.
Officials said the accused employee was later taken into custody for further interrogation.
Police recover evidence
Police are continuing their investigation to determine how the theft was carried out and whether anyone else may have been involved.
Authorities are also verifying whether the stolen jewellery has been fully recovered.
The case has drawn attention due to the large value of the missing ornaments and the alleged involvement of a staff member inside a medical facility.
Concerns over hospital security
The incident has sparked discussions about the need for stronger security systems in hospitals, especially in wards where patients and families often keep valuables during long treatments.
Security experts say hospitals must improve surveillance, staff monitoring and visitor management to prevent such incidents.
Many patients and attendants also expressed concern over the safety of belongings kept inside healthcare institutions.
Hospitals urged to strengthen monitoring
Authorities and civic observers believe hospitals should encourage safer storage practices and better awareness among patients regarding valuables.
Experts say incidents involving theft inside sensitive public spaces can affect public trust and create additional stress for families already dealing with medical emergencies.
Police said further investigation is underway and additional details are expected after questioning the accused
