Bengaluru: A 28-year-old migrant woman from Bihar was allegedly murdered by her husband at their rented house on the outskirts of Bengaluru, with the crime remaining unnoticed for nearly five days before her decomposed body was discovered.
The incident came to light under the Kumbalagodu Police Station limits near the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway after neighbours and a colleague reported a foul smell emanating from the house.
Body discovered after colleague raises alarm
The deceased has been identified as Reema Kumari, while her husband, Dheeraj Kumar, is the prime suspect in the case.
According to the police, Reema had not reported for work for several days. Concerned by her unexplained absence, one of her colleagues visited her rented home on Thursday and noticed a strong foul smell coming from inside.
The house owner was alerted, and when the door was opened, Reema’s decomposed body was found wrapped in a bedsheet near the toilet.
Preliminary investigations suggest that she was allegedly murdered on Sunday, nearly four to five days before the body was recovered.
Husband suspected to have fled to Bihar
Police suspect that Dheeraj Kumar killed his wife before fleeing to his native village in Bihar. A manhunt has been launched to trace and arrest him.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and collecting evidence to establish the motive behind the alleged murder.
Couple had moved to Bengaluru for work
Police said the couple had migrated from Bihar to Bengaluru around a year ago in search of employment and were working at a factory near Gerupalya.
Neighbours described them as a friendly couple and told investigators that theirs was a love marriage, making the incident all the more shocking.
Reema’s body has been shifted to a mortuary for a post-mortem examination, while the Kumbalagodu police continue their investigation into the case.
