Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said that he would attend Mahadayi meeting with a positive mind keeping the state’s interests in mind.

Chief Minister to convene all-party meeting on Mahadayi soon-1Speaking to mediapersons after presiding over an all-party meeting convened to invite suggestions and opinions of political parties on Mahadayi meeting scheduled to be held on October 21 in Mumbai, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that all political parties have welcomed Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal’s advice to settle the issue through negotiations.

“The meeting is attended by floor leaders of Opposition parties, Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa and the legislators of Mahadayi basin. All of them have advised me not to take a rigid stand during the negotiations on sharing of Mahadayi river water. They advised me to follow give and take policy. They also told me to attend the meeting with positive mind,” the chief minister said.

He said the chairman of Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal had advised  all stake-holders on September 1 to find a solution through negotiations. “I wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to convene a meeting to discuss sharing of Mahadayi river water. I also requested him to intervene in this matter to find an amicable solution. I wrote a letter to the chief minister of Goa and also to the chief minister of Maharashtra advising them to convene a meeting on their own or allow me to convene the meeting. I contacted Maharashtra chief minister over the phone and also Goa chief minister. While Maharashtra chief minister was generous enough to respond to my phone call, Goa chief minister was not available when I tried to contact him. Maharashtra chief minister had come forward to organize the meeting. So I am attending the meeting scheduled to be held at 11 am on October 21,” the chief minister said.

He said the state has been demanding 36.558 tmcft of Mahadayi water to cater to the needs of villages and towns in Mahadayi basin.
