Bengaluru: A police constable belonging to the National Investigating Agency (NIA),Telangana, was stabbed and injured on his hands when he tried to detain a 30-year-old private company employee and suspected IS sympathiser.

The incident took place on Saturday evening near Vinayakanagar, Parappana Agraha, southeast Bengaluru.

Sources said that Rafiq Mohammed, who is a native of Agra and had relocated to the city three years ago, attacked the constable after he caught hold of the former.

It has been reported that the NIA staff knocked on his door around 5pm and Rafiq’s wife Yasmeen Bhanu, who he married six months ago, opened the door.

“NIA officials asked for Rafiq and suddenly , Rafiq barged in, holding a kitchen knife in his hand. NIA constable Srinivas grabbed him and Rafiq attacked him with the knife,” sources said.

Yasmeen Bhanu also manhandled the staff. “After handcuffing Rafiq, we shifted him to Madiwala Forensic Science Laboratory and we’ll produce him before NIA judge on Sunday ,” NIA sources said.

Senior officials said they zeroed in on Rafiq after another accused, who they had arrested in Hyderabad on Friday, spilled the beans on Rafiq’s role. Rafiq was staying on the second floor of the four-storey building and the house owner told police Rafiq worked as an air-conditioner technician.
