Issue e-passes for fully-vaccinated citizens, suggest Covid tech experts

Bengaluru: The State Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) on Covid – 19 has advised the State Government on introducing Universal e-Passes for the fully-vaccinated citizens for use at entry points of offices, malls, cinema theatres and airports.

Suggesting that the facility, on the lines of Maharashtra Government’s pass could be started in the State, the experts informed that first it can be issued to people within the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits. Further, BBMP has informed that a decision regarding compulsory institutional quarantine of international travellers from ‘high-risk’ countries is yet to be taken.

Meanwhile, Health Minister K. Sudhakar on Saturday informed that six more cases of Omicron variant of Coronavirus have been found in the State taking the total Omicron tally in Karnataka to 14. Among the six detected, five cases have been detected from clusters that have been formed at two educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada district.

Fourteen Covid cases were found in the first cluster, of which four have tested positive for Omicron. In the second cluster, one person has tested positive for Omicron among 19 persons. A traveller from the UK has also tested positive for Omicron, Sudhakar said. Further details are awaited regarding the UK traveller.

As many as 14 students of Kurnadu JNV School had tested positive for Covid on December 10. Likewise, 19 students studying at Srinivasa Nursing College in Dakshina Kannada had tested positive for Covid on December 9. Their samples were sent for genome sequencing, and the reports have confirmed that one girl student was infected by the Omicron variant.

On Friday evening, the district administration of Dakshina Kannada had conducted an emergency meeting after a traveller from Ghana, a high-risk country, tested positive for Covid. In all, 27 of his co-passengers have been tested and are being monitored.
