Bengaluru: Veteran party leader G.T. Devegowda, a former minister and MLA, quits JD (S). This has resulted in a major setback for the JD(S), which is now only strong in the old Mysuru region of the State.
It can be recalled here that in the 2018 State Assembly election he had defeated outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Chamundeshwari Constituency.
“Former CM H. D. Kumaraswamy and Sa. Ra. Mahesh are responsible for my decision,” he said.
“I will contest on Congress ticket in the 2023 assembly election. My son Harish Gowda will also contest on the Congress ticket either from Hunsur, Chamaraja, or K. R. Nagar constituencies,” he said.
G.T. Devegowda has been away from JD (S) activities for a long time now. Former CM H. D. Kumaraswamy openly asked him to resign from the party citing indiscipline.
With his departure, JD (S) is almost losing its ground in the Mysuru District which is considered as one of the strongest bastions of the party.
