Bengaluru: In coming 2023 Assembly elections, son of former Chief Minister H. D. Kumarswamy’s Nikhil Kumarswamy is all likely to contest from Ramanagara Constituency.
Kumarswamy had said on Wednesday February 9 that his wife and Ramanagara MLA Anita Kumaraswamy would not contest in the election. Now, party sources have stated that Former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda has almost made up his mind to field Nikhil instead of Anita.
In the last Parliament election Nikhil had contested the Lok Sabha election from Mandya but was defeated by Independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh. The decision has come in the wake of Nikhil being the JD (S) Youth Wing President and active in both Mandya and Ramanagara politics.
It can be recalled here that in the last election, Kumaraswamy had contested from Ramanagara and Channapattana Constituencies. He won from both the Constituencies but resigned as MLA from Ramanagara. Later, his wife Anita won the Ramanagara byelection with a huge margin. The party now feels that Nikhil can easily win the election from Ramanagara as the party has a strong foothold there.
