Bengaluru: “The people of north Karnataka are demanding implementation of the much-delayed Kalasa-Banduri drinking water project, and they want the government to file an IA before the tribunal. So we have decided to seek senior counsel Fali Nariman’s opinion on filing an interim application (IA)” said Chief minister Siddaramaiah here on Saturday.
At the meeting convened by Chief Minister on Saturday evening with the floor leaders, it was decided to meet and seek advice of Nariman who is the head of the legal team which is representing Karnataka on Mahadayi river dispute.
Siddaramaiah speaking to reporters said, “There are different views on seeking an interim award from the Tribunal to draw 7.56 tmcft of water from Kalasa-Banduri. So, we have decided to meet Nariman and go according to his opinion,” CM said.
“We will discuss with our technical and legal teams the nature of the interim application and thereafter a suitable decision will be taken. The leaders of the opposition parties too will accompany him to meet senior counsel Nariman in New Delhi. After meeting him, a final decision will be taken,” he added.
When asked whether members of the all-party delegation would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi again Chief minister declined to comment and said, “We will think about it only after meeting Nariman in Delhi.”
