Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar chose to travel on Bengaluru’s Namma Metro on Sunday, stating that the decision was aimed at preventing inconvenience to the public and reducing traffic disruptions often associated with VIP movement.
The Chief Minister boarded the Metro at Vidhana Soudha Metro Station and travelled to Silk Institute Metro Station on Kanakapura Road before continuing his journey by road to Kanakapura.
Metro ride to minimise inconvenience
Speaking during the journey, Shivakumar said that the movement of a chief minister on city roads frequently results in traffic restrictions and delays for commuters. By opting for public transport, he said he hoped to avoid causing inconvenience to residents travelling across the city.
According to the Chief Minister, the Metro journey took around 45 to 50 minutes and enabled commuters to continue their travel without interruptions that might otherwise occur during a VIP convoy movement.
First constituency visit after taking oath
The trip marked Shivakumar’s first visit to his constituency after being sworn in as Karnataka Chief Minister earlier this week. He is scheduled to undertake a day-long gratitude tour across Kanakapura Taluk to thank voters and supporters.
The visit holds significance as he begins his tenure as Chief Minister while maintaining direct engagement with constituents in his home region.
Public debate on VIP traffic movement
The Metro journey comes at a time when discussions around VIP movement and traffic management have gained renewed attention in Bengaluru.
The debate intensified recently following a widely discussed incident on Old Airport Road, where a motorist staged a sit-in protest over alleged delays caused by traffic restrictions linked to the Governor’s convoy. Although police later clarified aspects of the incident, it sparked fresh conversations about balancing security arrangements with public convenience.
Many observers have viewed Shivakumar’s decision to use Namma Metro as a symbolic gesture highlighting the importance of public transport and its role in easing congestion in one of India’s busiest cities.#DKShivakumar #NammaMetro #BengaluruTraffic #KarnatakaCM #PublicTransport #newskarnataka
