Karnataka CM Reviews Dengue Situation, Stresses on Public Awareness

Cm Siddaramaiah Meeting

Bengaluru:  Chief Minister Siddaramaiah convened a crucial meeting with Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and senior government officials to address the rising concern over dengue outbreaks across the state. Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, the CM highlighted that Karnataka has recorded 5,374 dengue cases and 5 fatalities as of yesterday.

During the meeting, it was underscored that while Bengaluru, Chikkamagaluru, Mysore, Haveri, Shivamogga, Chitradurga, and Dakshina Kannada districts have reported the highest number of cases, the overall case fatality rate remains significantly below the national guideline of 0.5%, standing at a commendable 0.09%. Bengaluru reported 1,230 cases.

In response to the escalating numbers, Siddaramaiah directed officials to prioritize dengue detection and treatment, ensuring adequate availability of medicines, platelets, and treatment facilities across all government hospitals. He stressed the need for a comprehensive approach, including door-to-door surveys, public awareness campaigns, and the mobilization of ASHA workers, nursing students, NSS volunteers, and other community groups.

A special mission has been scheduled to intensify source reduction efforts every Friday, aiming to curb the breeding of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which transmit dengue. The CM instructed collaboration between BBMP, Urban Development, and Health departments to closely monitor the situation and enhance sanitation measures in urban areas.

In a public appeal, Siddaramaiah urged citizens to cooperate by eliminating mosquito breeding sites and supporting sanitation initiatives in their localities. He reiterated the government’s commitment to combating the dengue epidemic effectively, emphasizing proactive measures to safeguard public health across Karnataka.
