The Karnataka Congress is set to hold a crucial strategy meeting on Sunday evening to discuss concerns and objections related to the upcoming SIR process in the state.

The meeting will take place at a private resort on the outskirts of Bengaluru and will be led by Siddaramaiah, D. K. Shivakumar, and senior Congress leader Randeep Surjewala.

Senior leaders to attend meeting

According to party sources, several ministers, MLAs, MLCs, former legislators, MPs, district presidents, and candidates from the 2023 Assembly and 2024 Lok Sabha elections are expected to participate.

The leadership is likely to discuss the possible political and electoral impact of the SIR process while preparing both organisational and legal responses.

Party leaders reportedly believe that openly opposing the Election Commission’s process or adopting a complete non-cooperation approach may not benefit the party politically.

Congress plans cautious approach

Sources indicated that Congress may cooperate with the process while simultaneously monitoring developments closely.

The meeting is expected to focus on strengthening booth-level coordination and issuing instructions to party workers regarding future action plans.

Congress leaders have reportedly stressed that protecting citizens’ voting rights remains a key priority during the process.

Focus on booth-level monitoring

The party is expected to place special emphasis on the role of BLA1 and BLA2 members in monitoring voter-related procedures at the grassroots level.

As part of its strategy, Congress plans to establish SIR camps at polling booths and conduct door-to-door voter verification in coordination with government-appointed Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

Senior leaders are also expected to direct party workers to create awareness among voters and ensure close supervision of the process until completion.

The SIR process is scheduled to begin in Karnataka in June
