Bengaluru: The Forest Department has published the State’s first operational guideline for snake rescuers to address the rise in human-snake conflicts and ensure that snakes are rescued in a prescribed scientific manner.
The only states with specific guidelines regarding snake rescue are Kerala, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
The ‘Effective Human-Snake Conflict Management and Mitigation-An Operation Manual for Certified Snake Rescuers’ was written by renowned herpetologist Romulus Whitaker, The Liana Trust founder and trustee Gerard Martin, and Humane Society International/India senior manager Sumanth Bindumadhav.
