Karnataka is the most progressive state: Vajubhai Vala

Bengaluru: Governor Vajubhai Vala said on Friday that Karnataka is one of the most progressive states in the country.

Delivering address at 69th Republic Day celebrations held at Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Grounds here, the governor said: “I am proud to say that Karnataka stands at number one position, for the second time in a row, in the country in attracting investments.”

He said the State Government has been working towards making the state free from hunger through Anna Bhagya and Mathru Purna Schemes and the government has increased the quantity of food grains from 5 kg to 7 kg per person per month.

“One kg of toor dal is also supplied at half of the market price. Nutritious food is being provided to 8.70 lakh pregnant and lactating women under the Mathru Purna Scheme,’’ the Governor said.

He said an innovative programme of providing food at subsidized rates at 198 Indira Canteens was initiated in Bengaluru.

“The government has decided to expand this programme to all the district and the taluk headquarters,’’ he said.

The governor said the state has established data centre that is considered as the treasure house of government records and works round the clock.

“The state has always been a leader in IT & BT sector. It has contributed Rs 3 lakh crore of IT exports during 2017 and also contributes 35 per cent of India bio-tech industry revenue,’’ he said.

Being an educational hub, the state has 28 universities, 23 private universities and 15 deemed universities. “Karnataka is the first state to start an exclusive University for Rural Development Studies. Skill development training is being imparting through the Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation and job fairs are being organised in all the districts,’’ he said.

The state government has always emphasized on digital governance and spreading connectivity. “The government has already connected 5,353 gram panchayats to the Karnataka State Wide Area Network with Wi-Fi service,’’ he said.

The governor has said that Bengaluru is one of the top five innovation hubs in the world. “Therefore, for the service of the growing population of the city, the work on 72 kms of Phase-II metro is in progress,’’ he said.
