Bengaluru: The Karnataka leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra (BJY) began on Friday October 1 from Gundlupete, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi leading the march toward Begur on the National Highway leading to Mysuru. To give an extra boost to the yatra, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday October 6 joined the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra in District.

She had arrived in Mysuru on Monday October 3 and had stayed at a resort near the Kabini backwaters. The Bharat Jodo Yatra resumed from the Mandya District after a two-day pause due to the Vijayadashami and Dussehra festivals. Sonia Gandhi joined the padayatra between Pandavapura and Nagamangala Town.

Her participation was highly awaited by the party workers and leaders which will help to boost the party’s base in the State.

#BharatJodoWithSoniaGandhi has been trending first on Twitter since her participation in the yatra.

MLA Sachin Pilot wrote, “Today is a special day for #BharatJodoYatra as Congress President Sonia Gandhi ji joins party workers in the march. Her presence has infused new energy & brings more strength to the undeterred spirit of Congress to stand against BJP’s tyrannical rule.”

“Despite losing so much in the service of the nation, the lady still fearlessly walked hand in hand with the Yatris. However, due to health reasons, the fearless son of a fearless mother insisted she continues her fight in a Car,” stated Indian National Congress National President Srinivas B. V.

A mother despite her illness joins the fight that the son has taken up and a son who amidst the fight makes sure that his mother is in good health. What is a lovely mother-son bond if not this care and compassion?, he added.

AICC General Secretary K. C. Venugopal wrote that Sonia’s visit is giving a huge fillip to BharatJodoYatra.“Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi joined the epic journey today. Her arrival sent ripples of excitement among the crowd. Her presence alone is going to invigorate the common man and fortify the resolve of @RahulGandhi and the Yatris,” he added

“Unfazed, Undeterred & United. More power to our fight against tyrannical and divisive forces as Congress President Smt Sonia Gandhi joins the march,” wrote the official Twitter page of Karnataka Congress.

Though the Congress leaders and workers are enthralled by Sonia’s presence in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday said that her participation will not have any impact.

Responding to questions about Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s participation in the State’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and its impact, he said, “I can’t understand. They are Congress people and they will come. We are not connected in any way and there will not be any impact on us,” he said.
