Four youths have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping former MLC Dayananda Reddy and demanding a ransom of ₹2 crore in Bengaluru Rural district. Police investigations revealed that the abduction was linked to an old grudge stemming from a minor accident.

The accused have been identified as C Praveen (28), Romy Martin (29), Achhu P alias Adarsh (25), and Antony MB alias Ashiq (31), all residents of Yadavanahalli in Anekal.

Kidnapping carried out on way home

According to police, the incident occurred around 12.30 am on Tuesday when Reddy was returning home from a club on Huskur Road.

In his complaint, Reddy alleged that two men on a motorcycle intercepted his Toyota Velfire near Heelalige and distracted his driver by claiming they had a gift sent by a “madam”. While the driver stepped out, the suspects allegedly entered the vehicle and threatened Reddy with what appeared to be a firearm.

The former MLC was then allegedly taken to a secluded location in KHB Colony.

Fake supari story used as threat

Police said the accused allegedly told Reddy they were contract killers who had accepted ₹10 crore to eliminate him. They then demanded ₹2 crore, claiming they would spare his life in exchange for the money.

However, investigations later revealed that the claim about a ₹10-crore contract killing was fabricated. Police believe the accused intended to intimidate Reddy and extort money from him.

Accused in police custody

The four accused were arrested on Thursday and remanded to five days of police custody for further questioning.

Police have seized a car, a motorcycle and a plastic pistol allegedly used during the crime.

Investigators are continuing to probe the motive behind the abduction and the extent of planning involved in the incident.#Crime #Bengaluru #Kidnapping #DayanandaReddy #Karnataka #newskarnataka
