New Delhi/Bengaluru: Congress leader and Lok Sabha member Mallikarjuna Kharge has been appointed as the AICC In-charge General Secretary of Maharashtra by AICC President Rahul Gandhi. For the past 9 years, Mohan Prakash was the In-charge General Secretary for Maharashtra.
Apart from Kharge, Sonal Patel of Gujarat, Ashish Duva of Haryana and Sampath Kumar of Andhra Pradesh have been appointed as the in-charge secretaries for Maharashtra.
“Basically, Mallikarjuna Kharge knows very well about the situation in Maharashtra and it would help in assuring a well-organised party in the state. After UP, Maharashtra has the most number of Lok Sabha constituencies (48). Considering the seriousness of the next election, the party has taken the decision”, said a Congress leader.
The party leaders did not issue any clarification as to who will be leading the Congress in the next Lok Sabha elections. Though it is rumoured that Rahul Gandhi would lead the party, leaders said that he hadn’t taken any decision about it.
Meanwhile, Mohan Prakash is back in his home state Rajasthan and may contest in the upcoming Assembly election there.
