Kolar: Opposition Leader Siddaramaiah, who was in search of a safe Constituency in the next Assembly elections, is almost certain to contest from Kolar.

Sources said the names of Badami, Varuna, Chamundeshwari, Chamarajapete, Kolar and Hebbala Constituencies were under scrutiny but he finally agreed to contest from Kolar.

Former Speaker Ramesh Kumar, Former Ministers Krishna Byre Gowda and Nazir Ahmed, who had been pressurising him to contest from Kolar Constituency for the past six months, succeeded in persuading Siddu. It has been decided to launch the election campaign soon by offering prayers at the legendary Seeti Hill. It has also been decided to organise a huge convention in Kolar on the occasion.

Kolar, which is dominated by Vokkaliga and Muslim voters, has a large number of Backward and Scheduled Caste voters. If Siddaramaiah contests, the Muslim vote could be consolidated. There will be Kuruba and Backward Class votes too. There is also a calculation that the Ahinda vote bank will come back to Congress once again.
