Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) on Tuesday February 22 held its first meeting to create the Karnataka Disaster Risk Reduction Roadmap, a 10-year disaster mitigation plan.
According to sources, nodal officers from each government organisation and department were present. This is the first initiative, with Unicef as a knowledge partner, to ensure that the State is prepared to tackle any natural and man-made disasters. KSNDMC is also utilising geospatial technologies to develop the roadmap.
All resources are being mapped in order to identify where the nearest and fastest assistance is available, how to get to the site, and even who to contact in the case of emergency.
On a trial basis, five districts have been chosen, and out of them Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts have executed it.
